Sufi Mystic

The Whirling Dervishes belong to the Mevlevi Order of Sufism, founded in 13th-century Konya by followers of the poet and mystic Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi.

Central to their practice is the Sema, an ecstatic physical meditation and prayer ritual. Dervishes spin counter-clockwise, symbolizing the planets orbiting the sun and the soul's ascent toward divine love.

Every garment holds deep spiritual symbolism: tall camel-hair hats (sikke) represent the ego's tombstone, while flowing white skirts (tennure) signify the ego's shroud. With the right palm raised to receive divine grace and the left turned down toward earth, they channel universal love to humanity.

This soulful canvas painting captures the sacred whirling dance that takes place in Turkey, where dervishes move in devotion and spiritual harmony. The flowing white dress and open arms show surrender, love and deep connection with the Divine. This canvas painting is ideal for meditation corner, living rooms or quiet spaces. It inspires faith, inner stillness and spiritual growth making it a meaningful artwork for those who admire Turkish culture, Sufi tradition and soulful artistic expression.
